Bust out your ‘Staches!
Yup. You heard right. This Saturday is BURT REYNOLDS DAY. What is Burt Reynolds day?? A day to celebrate everything Burt Reynolds. It’s also his 70th birthday.
Ironically, we started Burt Reynolds day last year with these strips, LINK, and now I’m getting e-mails from college kids who are celebrating the event. A quick look around shows that while we did come up with this day on our own here, that the idea has universal appeal. There’s a guy on Myspace who, upon learning that February 11th was Burt Reynolds Birthday, he thought it would be cool to get together and watch non-stop Burt Reynolds movies and call it Burt Reynolds Day.
I know, it’s such an odd idea. Can you believe Burt Reynolds is friggin 70??? I just can’t. It blows my mind.
Also, if Burt or Burt’s friends are out there googling or technorati surfing his name and see this, or even perhaps the Burt Reynolds super computer picks up this transmission via blogging tags… Happy Birthday dude.

My kid has the perfect Smokey and the Bandit hat… now I just need to glue ’stache on him and it’s a GO! I’m still gonna dress up as snowman though every Bandit needs a SnowMan

Yes, I know it is mustache-less Burt day, but darn it, Cannonball Run (JJ McClure) Burt definitely kicked arse!
Or am I allowed to be a Burt supporting sidekick such as Dom DeLuise (Captain Chaos) for this festive occasion?

Burt Day *is* kinda awesome… but I must sadly temper it with some bad news, Yirmum-ites: Akira Ifukube died early this morning. Anyone who knows that name knows why I’m sad. The Roar is silent forevermore. Requiescat in pacem, Ifukube-sama.

Sad news - I use various Gojira roars as alert sounds on my PC, and two of Ifukube-sama’s themes as the open and close pieces. Also, to go way off topic, true fans need to see the Japanese version of the first one (not the one with Raymond Burr). It’s a very different movie - very Japanese.

Yes, indeed, Jim… very Japanese. I have an original VHS copy that I keep in a safe deposit box with the rest of my collectible stuff. Stupid Raymond Burr edition <grumble grumble>.
Who would win in a fight between Gojira and Burt Reynolds? What if Dom DeLuise was involved? Or DeLuise? King Ghidora?
